the tent and you didn't think to bring a torch with you. Maybe the car

Your wife and children are now freezing cold, but nobody has packed any
warm clothes - after all, it was a scorching hot day when you left from
home a few hours ago.

They retreat to the car leaving you, tent pole in hand.
